This survey isn’t available

Someone opened a survey link and saw This survey isn’t available, with the note that it may not be published yet, or may have been closed or removed. Two neighbouring pages belong here too: This survey is no longer accepting responses. and This survey requires a password to access.

A survey link only works while the survey is open to its audience. The page does not say which condition applied, by design; the editor toolbar does.

  • Draft. Not published yet. The toolbar reads Draft — not collecting responses.
  • Testing. The toolbar reads Testing — invite-link access. Only the test link opens the survey.
  • Being checked. After publishing, a survey can be held while its content is checked. The editor shows Your survey is being reviewed. Respondents see the unavailable page until the check completes, usually within a day, and you receive an email when it does.
  • Closed or archived. Respondents see the survey’s name with This survey is no longer accepting responses. The toolbar reads Closed.
  • Password. Respondents must enter the password you set under Password & Test Access.
  • Removed, or a broken link. The survey was deleted, or the link was retyped or cut short.

Signed-in editors and owners bypass these checks, so the link can work for you and not for the person you sent it to.

  1. Open the survey in the editor and read the status in the toolbar.
  2. If it says Draft, click 🌐 Publish. For a dry run first, use 🔗 Share test link and send that link instead of the public one.
  3. If the survey is being reviewed, wait for the email. The hold lifts on its own; you do not need to republish.
  4. If it says Closed, open the publishing panel and click Reopen survey under Collection.
  5. If the survey has a password, send it with the link, or remove it under Password & Test Access › Remove Password.
  6. Send the link again, copied from the share page, and open it yourself in a private browser window to see what respondents see.

Contact support with the survey link, the status in the editor toolbar and the page the respondent saw. If the survey is being reviewed and more than a day has passed, include the date you published.
